Aeroponic Seedlings
Starting Plant Genetics With Seeds in Aeroponics
Aeroponics systems, like many Water Culture gardening methods use little or no growing media to replace or throw away—further helping it to be an ideal way to start plants from seed as well as rooting cuttings.
Starting aeroponic seedlings is an easy and productive gardening practice. Aeroponics supercharges Dissolved Oxygen and Ambient Oxygen levels around seeds by using a continuous or intermittent fine spray to infuse air from the atmosphere into a nutrient solution or plain water.
When indoor and hydroponic gardeners think of aeroponics for plant propagation they inevitably think of aeroponic cloning methods, which are a well-established and acknowledged way to start very healthy plants that can get bigger faster versus traditional methods.
Aeroponics systems, like many Water Culture gardening methods use little or no growing media to replace or throw away—further helping it to be an ideal way to start plants from seed as well as rooting cuttings.
The EZ Clone aeroponic plant propagation systems AKA EZ Cloners are a great example we can use to demonstrate this. A lot of hydroponic gardeners who are used to seeing these systems are more often than not accustomed to the reusable neoprene collars that gently and snuggly support the cut plants through the rooting process.
EZ Clone also offers some great earth friendly alternatives, like the Coco collars (supports made from coconut fibre). Some of the newer systems even have them included, as samples. Recently, our new Low Pro 128 model was supplied with Coco Collars as well as something newer: Coco Seed Starters for the aeroponic system.
Naturally, we will be giving these a go, so stay tuned for updates here on this page with our progress, for better or worse–Ed.
Meanwhile, we contacted the aeroponic plant propagation experts they keep chained in a basement deep below the surface of the earth at an undisclosed location for some helpful tips in getting the most out of the aeroponic Coco Seed Starters.
BTW, they might initially look the same as the Cloning Collars—they however, are not. On closer inspection and after hydrated they are quite a bit different because they do not have the slit as with the Cloning Collars and are quite a bit deeper with a texture that is more suitable to creating the ideal supercharged seed bed for starting your favorite plant genetics.
Starting Aeroponic Seedlings Grow Tips, from THE Experts at EZ Clone:
Pre-Soak the Coco Seed Starters in a pH balanced (5.8) solution of filtered water with your favorite cloning additives, if you want. Note that plain filtered water works, but better results can be achieved with microbial or cloning solutions
Place the Coco Seed Starters into the lid BEFORE putting the lid on the system. This helps keep any tiny bits of loose material from falling into the solution where they might eventually clog a sprayer by getting sucked into the pump.
With LARGER Seeds, germinate them in paper towels or capillary matting first. Some growers may also prefer to soak seeds under close watch and insert after the seed cracks. With matting or paper towels as soon as over 50% have sprouted gently place them into the Coco Seed Starter inserts for the aeroponic propagation system
With Smaller Seeds like basil or lettuce, scatter them into the Coco Seed Starter-make sure they are slightly below the surface and nestled into the coconut fibre where they can get the perfect ratio of moisture to air—with a supercharged kick of Oxygen.
